Every June, Opava’s historic centre transforms into a vibrant hub of music, literature, theatre, and thought-provoking lectures and debates. Slunovrat festival brings together leading Czech and international musicians, writers, scientists, and public figures, creating a truly unique atmosphere in the city’s most distinctive spaces. Different genres, generations, and ideas come together, making Slunovrat a place of true discovery.
Slunovrat prides itself on being open, welcoming, and accessible. Whether you are drawn to alternative music, literary discussions, contemporary theatre, or new circus, you are bound to find something that speaks to you. Alongside the main stages, the Kofola Welcome Stage shines a spotlight on emerging artists and promising new talent, offering a platform to musicians at the start of their journey.
The festival is also home to several long-standing programme strands, including the Charity Inspiration Zone, dedicated to non-profit organisations and social awareness initiatives; the Literary Salon, featuring book signings, literary quizzes, and meetings with authors; and the Nuclear Science Stage, which hosts engaging discussions on a wide range of scientific topics.
Slunovrat also brings new life to some of Opava’s most remarkable venues – from St. Wenceslas Church and the Petr Bezruč Library to the ground floor of the former Breda department store and the historic exhibition building of the Silesian Museum.
Winter Edition
Winter Edition is Slunovrat’s smaller, more intimate autumn counterpart – but no less memorable. Each November, it brings a carefully curated programme of concerts, theatre performances, discussions, and inspiring guests to Opava.
While more compact than the June festival, Winter Edition shares the same spirit and commitment to quality, meaningful encounters, and unforgettable experiences. It is the perfect way to reconnect with the Slunovrat atmosphere between festival seasons – especially if one Slunovrat a year simply isn’t enough.
